Archaeology Field School Description


“Into the Wild Camp” Archaeological Experimentation Field School intends to be as scientific accurate as possible, showing and teaching archaeological experimentation techniques and primitive bushcraft. You will be able to see and learn how to: Build a prehistoric shelter; Flint knapping; Fire techniques; Produce prehistoric ceramic; Painting and engravings; Prehistoric cooking; Cultural visits to archaeological sites regarding rock art like the Foz Côa UNESCO World Heritage Rock Art Sites and Museum and the Serra da Estrela Interpretation Center (the biggest mountain in mainland Portugal). Participants will also have the chance to camp in the only and unique Nature Reserve that we have in Portugal called Faia Brava Reserve. The fieldschool is organized by Prehistoric Skills Events, and will be in the Center of Portugal in a small village called Fail, 8kms from the nearest city, Viseu. This Field School as a special partnership with the Aspiring Geopark Estrela. If you are interested send us an email so we can give you all the informations and the application form. Price includes 3 meals per day, pick-up and drop-off from transportation nearby, all the fieldwork activities, accommodation, lectures and visits. Have in mind that sleeping will be in tents and showers/toilets will be outside, this camp is in the middle of nature, 15 minutes walking to the nearest village.

Field School Setting/Conditions
The camp will be in a village, you can walk to the coffee place but there will be transportation.
In the village there is a small grocery and 2 coffee places.

How is the project area accessed each day
We have cars, but walking is also ok.
Very nice path to walk, minimum dificulty.

What is the daily schedule for the field school
There are no fixed schedules.
