Archaeology Field School Description

The Museum intensive/short course is run by various specialists in the fields of museum curation, outreach, interpretation and conservation. It explores the depth and richness of museum collections, how objects come into collections, who collects, how objects are stored and interpreted and why they are stored into the future. Discussions focus on methodologies of collecting, assessing significance, conservation, representation and repatriation. The major aims of this topic are:
• To provide an introduction to the origins, history and development of museums.
• To provide practical professional experience in a museum setting.
• To introduce students to the principles and practice of collections management and care.
• To help students develop the practical skills needed to work in a museum.
